The Village Pizzeria

By David Kim

When it comes to pizza, my expectations in LA aren’t too high. People tend to look more towards New York, Boston, or Chicago for that. So when a friend suggested that we go to the highly rated Village Pizzaria in Larchmont, I naturally assumed that we would experiencing your typical pedestrian LA slice.

That was not the case. We ordered a half slab of the Village Special (Homemade meatballs, homemade sausage, pepperoni, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, olives & anchovies) in Sicilian thick crust. The central element to good pizza is in the crust. The thick Sicilian crust did not disappoint. It was not overly doughy, as thick crusts can sometimes be, and was surpising fluffy, yet crisp. The crust was topped by exactly the right amount of mozzerella cheese and tomato sauce, and the toppings tasted quite fresh. Overall, I had to rate it as one of the better pizza pies I’ve had.

I had a taste of the New York style thin crust, and found it to be excellent as well.

The Brooklyn vibe dominates, with plenty of NY memorabilia and photographs. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, as well as delivery and takeout.
