A classy, classic burger joint

By David Plowman

Whoever said “class” and burgers don’t go together hasn’t been to Hamburger Hamlet. This local chain specializes in good, greasy burgers served in an upscale environment with friendly service.

Their flagship location, on Hollywood Boulevard just across the street from Grauman’s Chinese Theater, features a cozy quite environment to people watch.

The menu offerings are extensive with turkey burgers, Asian pot-stickers and meat-loaf, but as their name implies, Hamburger Hamlet’s specialty is burgers. In fact, with so many different burger choices, the only difficulty is deciding which one to get. But thankfully, you don’t have to decide on just one, their sampler platter allows you to try a variety of bite-sized junior burgers.

While the restaurant chain has had several owners over the years, it began as the result of a real-life Hollywood love story. An aspiring dress maker met an aspiring actor who said his goals in life were to become a famous actor, play Hamlet and to open a restaurant. Four months later, found a great location for a restaurant, and Hamburger Hamlet was born.

Hamburger Hamlet in Hollywood is located at 6914 Hollywood Blvd, with additional locations in throughout Southern California.
